a doula walks with you.

She is a sister, a companion, an advocate, and a Nurturing hand.
She is
not there to save you. She is only there to build you up in order for you to exert your autonomy. SHE promises to gently expose your fear & doubt AND reminds you to anchor yourself with THE FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT.
She rubs your pregnant feet and her hand is there to bring you water as you birth. she sits vulnerably with you in the trenches AND rejoices in the victories.
She respects your boundaries, knowing when to step in
and when to stand back.
she might even get your blood all over her feet
as she stands next to you in
your birthing power.

the support of a doula is an investment worth making that could easily become a lifelong friend.

Like the roots of sturdy trees weaving together to share nutrients and strength. . . we too are designed to come together to form unshakeable networks of support with one another.

Important questions. . .

  • The birth doula is there for you during labor & birth. She may also offer prenatal sessions & care prior to the birth. Birth doulas are there as a source of comfort, emotional & psychological support, & often physical support & comfort measures if desired such as massage, counter-pressure, help with positioning during labor & more. An excellent doula will listen to her intuition & remain attuned with you. She ensures you stay hydrated, fed, rested & that the atmosphere of the room stays in alignment with what you need to relax & surrender to the physiological process of birth. In different birth settings, doulas operate at various levels of support: for example at a hospital birth, your doula may be more vocal & assertive to make sure the hospital staff are respecting your wishes. At a homebirth, your doula may be working more in the background, keeping your house in order, giving you space when needed, but still offering soothing touch & words of encouragement. It all depends on you & what you envision for your most powerful & aligned birth experience

  • We believe the postpartum window is actually the time when mothers need the most support. A postpartum doula is a big exhale of relief for new mamas, & even for seasoned mamas who already have children. She is there for the whole family, & gets to be a part of one of the most intimate, beautiful, trying, & messy times of life! It’s truly a blessing. Welcoming a new baby into the home comes with a lot of change & learning. A postpartum doula may offer: breastfeeding support, home-cooked meals, nutrition & herbs to restore your hormonal balance, massage, running errands, keeping the house tidy, other household chores, helping taking care of other children & pets, holding space & praying with you, making sure you feel seen, heard & supported. At Psalms of women, it is our belief that the levels of postpartum depression & anxiety for mothers would drastically drop if every mama & family had this level of attentive care & support.

  • Whether you just want someone who understands & who can hold space for you, offer knowledge & education during your pregnancy, or someone to be there with you at your birth & stay to help care for you during your postpartum window, a doula is an invaluable resource for the whole family.

  • A midwife will be a primary care provider such as a physician or OB. Licensed midwives provide medical care, such as cervical checks, ultrasounds, & can physically deliver the baby. The doula on the other hand, offers non-judgmental support, guidance, evidence-based education and practical hands-on support during childbirth including comfort measures. Doula originates from the Greek word meaning woman servant. A birth doula recognizes the profound impact of childbirth on the mother. The doula does not provide medical care, clinical tasks such a cervical checks and does not speak on behalf of the client, but helps empower the client to speak on her own behalf. Doulas make sure their clients understand all of their rights when it comes to birth, offer guidance for what decisions to make based on the clients needs, boundaries & desires. They provide emotional, psychological, spiritual & physical support every step of the way

  • Doulas attend all types of births, depending on their practice, beliefs & experience. You can have a doula regardless of what route you choose to go on for where to have your birth, whether that’s the hospital, homebirth, or a birth center. Doulas will provide various levels of support in each setting, depending on your needs, & depending on the other people in the room.

  • Ask questions. Do your research. Take your birthing choices into your own hands and finally, take it to God in prayer.

    He will direct your path.

  • It is our belief that a valuable doula will not overstep the father, rather encourage him to fulfill his natural role in supporting the mother of his child. She is also there to support him as he is also going to be going through the birthing process in his own way along side. Fathers are a very important role and we do not underestimate that.

  • When you have found the right fit for you and your family, we recommend hiring as soon as you can. This will give you the time to bond and create a relationship of trust and comfort. If you are feeling “late” to hiring one…..its never too late!
